Indigenous health literacy: The value of social media

James Smith and colleagues have found that social media could play an important role in understanding the health literacy of youth within Indigenous communities. Social media offers another gateway into the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wellbeing issues that are most pertinent to them. Furthermore, the use of social media in such research enhances validity as data is gathered from multiple sources, thereby allowing communities, in partnership with Researchers, better understand their health literacy needs.
